Patients who have end-stage lung disease from cystic fibrosis, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, restrictive lung disease, as well as other diseases are considered as potential lung transplant recipients.
Our medical and surgical transplant teams are specially trained and dedicated to the evaluation and management of lung transplant patients. Our department is actively involved in clinical and basic science research to improve transplant outcomes.

Our surgeons are on faculty at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. They are part of a fellowship training program in cardiothoracic surgery. Our surgeons have produced the best outcomes in the state of Texas for the past several years. In particular, the care of newborn infants with cardiac abnormalities and single ventricle physiology continues to be a source of strength and excellence. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital is home to a dedicated pediatric cardiothoracic surgical operating room, which is reserved only for the care of children with cardiothoracic surgical needs.
