Congenital Heart Surgery Case Manager

Rita Rodriguez graduated from St. Phillip’s College in 2005 with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and received her Certification in Case Management from the Commission for Case Managers in 2010. Her clinical background includes inpatient acute care rehab, long-term acute care, and oncology service lines and her expertise includes experience as a case manager and nurse navigator in an acute care hospital setting.
Rita joined the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at UT Health in 2016. She is currently the Pediatric Heart Surgery Nurse Case Manager for the Congenital Heart Program. Rita is the primary nurse coordinator for Dr. S. Adil Husain and Dr. John Calhoon.
Rita collaborates with a multidisciplinary care team to coordinate the care of pediatric and adult patients diagnosed with congenital heart anomalies and/or other pediatric heart conditions. Rita assists patients and families navigate the continuum of care from pre-admission through the post-surgical care period.
Rita is an active member of The Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses and Case Management Society of America.  Rita is fluent in Spanish.
