Patient Care — Complex acquired heart disease surgery
Patient appointments & physician referrals: please call 210-450-0999.
Bypass operations, redo bypass operations, Ross procedures, valve replacement surgery, valve repair surgery: Acquired heart disease surgery involves coronary bypass operations, valve replacement and repair operations, as well as more complex cardiac operations involving redo operations and aortic root replacements. Edward Sako, MD, PhD, specializes in mitral valve repair surgery, which, when possible, may be preferable when replacement with an artificial valve is otherwise the only alternative. This may be particularly desirable when the patient is young or otherwise unable to take the blood-thinning medicines that mitral valve replacement (with an artificial valve) would otherwise require. Complex aortic root surgeries, including homograft root replacements or Ross procedures, are performed routinely by John Calhoon, MD. Transmyocardial laser revascularization, a new technology that can be applied to patients needing myocardial revascularization but who are unable to undergo conventional bypass surgery, is also available. Seenu Reddy, MD, MBA, is specially trained in endovascular surgery for the thoracic aorta and advanced techniques for repair and replacing the ascending aorta and great vessels.
