Patient Care — Heart and Lung Transplantation
Our medical and surgical transplant teams are specially trained and dedicated to the evaluation and management of heart and heart/lung transplant patients. Our division is actively involved in clinical and basic science research to improve transplant outcomes.
Lung transplantation:
Over the last several years, our lung transplant program has performed over 100 lung transplants and was the first program in the United States to perform a single lung transplant for emphysema. Under the current leadership of Scott Johnson, MD, the lung transplant program has become a major referral center for all of South Texas. Our team includes pulmonologists Luis Angel, MD, and Deborah Levine, MD, who are specially trained and dedicated to the evaluation and management of lung transplant patients. They offer the highest quality of continuity of care and expert management for patients who have undergone lung transplantation.
