Dr. Beers was born, and raised in Coatesville, PA. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of South Carolina in 2009, and his osteopathic medicine degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2014. At South Carolina he was a Howard Hughes research scholar, where he completed work involving antagonistic interactions among marine bacteria. During medical school, he completed research as an AATS Summer Intern at Wake Forest University SOM, department of cardiothoracic surgery, where he studied the effects of negative pressure on reperfusion injury in acutely ischemic myocardium. He also served as the WVSOM national representative for the Student Osteopathic Surgical Association. His interests include adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, and organ transplantation. When he is not in the hospital, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, his Jack Russell terrier – Shelby, collie – Karson, and driving his corvette.

“Mechanical Tissue Resuscitation: A Novel Therapeutic Approach for Prevention of
Myocardial Reperjusion Injury”
June 2011-August 2011, I was part of a research team headed by Dr. James E. Jordan, PhD, seeking therapeutic approaches to apply mechanical tissue resuscitation to an acutely ischemic myocardium in order to reduce reperfusion injury.
