Nels D. Carroll, MD

Dr. Carroll was born and raised in Spokane, WA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Washington in 2007 where he was a Mary Gates Scholar studying marine benthic ecology. He then joined Teach For America, serving in Houston, TX where he taught math and science. Given the opportunity to advance with his students, he remained on to teach an additional year after completing his service commitment. He received his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA in 2015 where he developed his interest in cardiothoracic surgery. Here he contributed to research in lung transplantation, heart failure and robotic cardiac surgery and participated in multiple service learning opportunities in India and also in China. His professional interests are broad and span minimally invasive thoracic surgery, mitral disease and endovascular aortic repair. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and other outdoor activities, and is an avid Seahawks fan.
