Hao Pan, MD, PGY VI

Dr. Pan was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, CA. He attended Villanova University and the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology/Integrated Physiology and competed for both Division I Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Throughout undergraduate he remained active in education, working as a teaching assistant in organic chemistry. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix. Dr. Pan’s research interests include immunosuppression in heart transplantation and blood conservation. He plans to return to private practice in Phoenix, AZ following residency at UTHSCSA.

Research experience

2008-2010: Evolving Study to Identify a Safe, Simple, & Efficacious Transition to Subcutaneous Insulin Protocol to Control Hyperglycemia after Cardiovascular Surgery for ≥1 Postoperative Day. The goals of this clinical research project was to utilize the STS Adult Cardiac Database to measure outcomes in a standardized protocol to safely transition off the insulin drip in postoperative cardiac surgery patients in the ICU.

2005-2008: Scottsdale Clinical Research Institute: Multidisciplinary approach to reducing postoperative deep sternal wound infections and reducing total ventilator hours. This was a hospital wide approach that spanned three years to identify major morbidity in patients undergoing elective CABG and developed standardized protocols that significantly improved outcomes towards nationwide gold standards.
